Wednesday Blog: Almost Valentine's Day

We learned how to make tops in Science.  Here is how you make tops.  You get a straw.  Then you make three paper circles.  Then you poke one hole in the middle of them.  Our tops spun off the table.  In Math we are learning about regrouping.  Mr. Johnson put a paper on the whiteboard.  It said "More on top don't stop.  More on the floor go next door and borrow ten more.  If the numbers are the same, zero is your game."  We are getting ready to publish our stories.

Tuesday Blog: Balance Challenge Over

We learned to use the boomwacker in Music.  In Music when we did boomwackers it sounded like armies marching.  We're done with our balance challenge!

Today in Science we had a balance challenge!  One challenge was we tried to balance a popsicle stick on a string and it balanced!  The popsicle stick had notches in it.  We have our paper for Valentine's Day.  On next Monday we can bring our Valentines.  Remember to bring your cereal box by Thursday!

Fun Times Today

We are learning about models to subtract two and one digit numbers.  You can regroup one ten for ones.  When we went to music we played the corner game and Musical Chairs.  It was fun playing the two games.  Mr. Johnson brought a globe for our classroom.  It is fun to look through.  There is a wrestling tournament.  We are bringing cereal boxes for Valentine's Day.  We are decorating our boxes.  We had a Problem of the Day.  It was hard.  One reading group finished their chapter book. Next week we are publishing our stories.  We are writing our stories we want to publish.

We Learned to Balance Pencils

We learned to balance a pencil on the tip of it.  We used wires to hold the clothespins to make the pencil steady.  Today we played iPads.  It was fun.  We played a lot of Math games.

The First Day of February

In the morning we waited for Calendar.  Then we did Show and Tell. It was fun.  After Show and Tell, we did our Word Study Think-tac-toe.  We did our writing.  Next week we will start publishing our stories.  We played a Math game.

Today We . . .

Today we learned about beginning, middle, and end.  It is sort of like sequencing.  And we also learned about the Emergency Room in our Reading books.  At small group time, two groups got together and used the dictionary.  They found words and read the definitions.  In the lunch line, someone lost his shoe.  Today we had a sub.  We got Fancy Writing for Word Study.  It is new.  We also went to read story in the Rec Center during small groups.  Today is the last day of January.  Have a happy February!
